The management of the University of Juba has opened a distance learning centre in Tori State for students who may not always be physically present at the university’s current location in Juba.

Ciricio Oromo, a professor at the University of Juba, told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that he was delegated by the university to bring forms for students who are interested to study at the university through distance education.

“I have been delegated by the dean of distance education. Distance education means people should register in their areas and the materials will be sent to them and after three months the lecturers will come here for what we call intensive courses,’’ he said.

Professor Oromo further said the new center will offer diplomas, degrees, postgraduate certificates and masters.

For his part, the Acting Minister of Education in Torit State Vitale Ongejuk welcomed the initiative. “I welcome the idea as the acting minster of education because this idea will help our students who are loitering around the town because some of them are not employed,” he said.

‘’It is also an alternative because we have other foreign universities. They come here in the name of helping our students but at the end of the day they don’t even graduate our students and they go and disappear,” he added.
