Unity State youth demand removal of new oilfield boss

Several youth Monday morning protested in Unity State’s Jack Payam of Koch County against the appointment of Gatkuoth Kun Dar as vice-president of the Sudd Petroleum Operating Company (SPOC) in the Tharjiath oilfield.

Dar was appointed last week by the National Ministry of Petroleum.

Jack Payam youth chairperson Wicyac Wich confirmed the protests to Radio Tamazuj, saying the youth were insisting that the position should be held by someone from Koch, Guit, Mayendit, Panyijiar or Leer counties, which are under SPOC.

“We have rejected the appointment of Mr. Gatkuoth Kun Dar as vice-president of SPOC because he is not part of SPOC Bloc 5A. He is from Bloc 5B, which should consider him for appointment as a son of Rubkona County.

One of the protesters, Stephen Matai, said that they were demanding the removal of Gatkuoth because he was not from the four counties under SPOC.

“We are appealing to the National Ministry of Petroleum to revoke the appointment because we do not want Dar,” Matai asserted.

The Ministry of Petroleum in Juba could not immediately be reached for comment.
