Unity State State Security Advisor John Malok Matai was yesterday removed from office without explanation, according to a gubernatorial decree read out on state-run television.
Caretaker Governor Joseph Nguen Monytuil gave no explanation for the immediate removal of John Malok Matai. Nor could the ousted official be reached for comment.
However, contacts reported that more senior officials may have been displeased that Malok admitted SPLA-IO forces penetrated Bentiu town on Wednesday, contradicting other public statements by officials in Juba.
The offfical was quoted by Radio Tamazuj as saying SPLA-In Opposition rebels captured Kilo 30 area on Monday, ahead of the attack on Bentiu. Also on Wednesday he announced fighting within the state capital.
It is not clear whether he spoke to any other media.
The Unity State governor also decreed on Thursday the appointment of Rose Nyaboth, Advisor on Gender, Child and Social Development and Mary Paul, Advisor on Investment Affairs.
