Authorities of Unity State's Mayom County say they have collected 404 cattle as blood compensation for the people killed at Ajak Kuac Payam in Twic County of Warrap state.
Four people among them two children and two women were killed by armed youth from Unity State's Mayom County last week in Warrap State. Four people were also injured in the attack.
The Executive Director of Mayom County, Gadet Gany, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that they have already collected the blood compensation and were ready to pay for the deaths.
"We are now going to pay 404 cattle for the people killed at Ajak Kuac and we will complete this process in the next two to three days," he confirmed.
“We collected cattle from all of the killers including the relatives of those who are dead. According to the Kuajok agreement, at the inter-states level regarding the criminals, if someone goes and is killed in another state, there will be no blood compensation for him. But if he kills, has to pay a blood compensation of 101 cattle," he added.
He called on Ajak Kuac authorities to reciprocate by compensating the deaths of two people from Mayom County last week by armed youth from Ajack Kuac Payam.
The Executive Director of Ajak Kuac County, Simon Agujok, confirmed the incident and promised that they would also pay blood compensation for the two per the agreement binding the communities.
Agujok reiterated that blood compensation is a key part of the Northern Corridor Agreement in which both Warrap and Unity states are signatories, stating that respecting the agreement would strengthen peaceful coexistence among the communities of the neighboring states.
