Unity State sets up inter-county court

South Sudan’s Unity State has set up a special court to deal with cases that cross county lines. The court’s work is helping to improve the stability of the counties Rubkona, Mayom, Guit and Koch, according to the state’s deputy governor.

The court is located in Nhialdiu in Rubkona County. It was set up after an earlier conference between the four counties.

Deputy Governor Michael Chiangjek, who recently made a visit of inquiry to the court, voiced optimism about its impact: “I went to Nhialdiu to investigate the work of the special court that has been formed to solve the issues of four counties: Mayom, Guit, Koch and Rubkona. If the court continues with its work, the region will be in its best condition.”

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the deputy governor said that the work of the court was going on well and he described the situation there as stable, stating that the court in Nhialdiu contributed in the process of peaceful co-existence between the civilians, especially in Kuey.

Chiangjek also investigated the situation of flood victims in the state and asserted that the most affected regions were Bentiu and its suburbs as well as Kaljak, Guit, Leer, Mayom, Mayendit and north of Pariang and Panyigar. The deputy governor noted that citizens of those regions have complained of damages caused by the rains and floods to the agricultural products and he appealed to the citizens to not lose hope due to the loss of harvests.

I want to tell our citizens that the coming period is important. If we lose the seeds we have now, we can also plant wheat that can be compensation to the wheat that was destroyed by the floods,” he said encouragingly.
