The Unity State Security Advisor claimed that stability was restored in Bentiu following clashes in the town on 15 August but warned that there could be a fresh rebel offensive soon.
Security advisor John Malok told Radio Tamazuj Monday that intelligence reports showed new recruits under the command of Brigadier General Michael Makal being equipped along the Sudan-Unity border.
“Those forces are now reorganizing themselves after they had been supplied with weapons and ammunition in Heglig area by the Khartoum government,” he charged.
Malok said the government forces are ready to respond to any attack.
“I can assure you that we are able to repel any attack because on 15 August SPLA fought and flushed out over 8,000 rebels in Bentiu and Rubkona,” he said.
The advisor further said that some of the internally displaced people sheltering inside the UN base are trying to go back home but the majority are staying inside because of the violence.
Sudanese officials have previously denied allegations that they are arming South Sudan’s rebels.
