The Unity State Minister of Agriculture and Forests has expressed hopes for a peace deal at upcoming political talks in Ethiopia and stressed the need for peace to ensure food security in the state.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Minister Peter Nyuok Lual Kiir said he has just arrived to Pariang County to inspect the situation of the county. He called it a “routine, normal” visit to see the area, his first visit since his appointment.

The minister said the important thing now is stability because stability will allow for cultivation. He expressed hopes that the ongoing negotiations would lead to peace.

The minister stressed that the government is for peace. “We could bring peace immediately – we may bring peace today, before tomorrow,” he said.

“Our purpose is peace,” he claimed.
