The governor of Unity State last week distributed eight Toyota LandCruiser (hardtop) vehicles to the state ministers and advisors in Bentiu town.

The minister of lands, housing, and public utilities in Unity State, Lam Tungwar Kueigong, confirmed that they received vehicles to ease the movement of government officials.

“We have received a few vehicles, given the scarcity of resources. The few vehicles have come with the help of state governor Dr. Joseph Monytuil and they were distributed last week to ease the movement of the state ministers and advisors and help in service delivery in Unity State. As we move forward, more vehicles will be coming along the way to be given to other state departments, commissions, and even county commissioners,” Minister Lam said.

He said only eight LandCruiser hardtop vehicles were given to the officials.

“There are compromises based on certain areas of priorities for the busiest and urgent departments. So, many people have to bear with the state government and the governor himself. They should understand that they are not discriminated against but it is just out of the priorities of the state government. When vehicles arrive, they will get what belongs to them in the department and their institutions,” Lam explained. “It is something that has to be done in a way otherwise every person, commission, and department requires vehicles for them to move. There is a scarcity of resources and the state has been devastated by conflicts.”

The state minister of information and communication, Gabriel Hon Makuei, said that some of the vehicles are being shared by ministers.

“Like now, my ministry of information and communication is given one land cruiser hardtop, but now we are sharing it with the minister of culture, youth, and sports. The same thing to the rest of the institutions. The vehicles have been distributed but they are being shared,” Hon said.

Minister Hon said he does not know how much was used to purchase the vehicles.
