Authorities in Unity State on Tuesday evening celebrated the success of their students who passed the Sudan School Certificate examination in South Sudan amid ululation and joy from the families of the students who had succeeded. The celebration was under the patronage of the commissioner of Rubkona who also represented the Government of Unity State at the occasion.
The commissioner William Gatjang addressed the students, their colleagues and families and congratulated the students on the great efforts they put in to pass the examinations. He also praised the families and teachers and appealed to them to push their children to raise the banner of South Sudan and Unity State in particular and to take South Sudan to the front lines. Other officials and civil administration leaders also participated in the celebration amidst cheers from the students who passed the examinations.
South Sudan’s Ministry of General Education currently has a memorandum of understanding with its counterpart in Sudan to continue using the testing materials of the more-established Northern system until as late as 2014. This agreement is one of the few cooperative measures still in place between the two countries.
