The police in Unity State have reported that Christmas was celebrated peacefully without any crimes reported across the state’s seven counties.
John Malieth, the state’s police spokesperson, told Radio Tamzju Friday that they deployed security forces to ensure peaceful festivities.
“Before Christmas, we deployed all the security forces in all the areas of Bentiu Town and the seven counties is to protect the lives and property of our people and the forces will remain in the centers where they stationed,” he said. “The gang and criminal groups were controlled by the security and could not operate during Christmas and no crimes or victims were recorded victims on 24 and 25 December. The same measures will be used for the New Year celebrations.”
Malieth added: “This is the second time for the people of Unity State to celebrate and enjoy Christmas without crime.”
For his part, Nyalieh Geng, the resident of Rubkona Town confirmed that the festivities were peaceful and that believers even went to church on Christmas Eve night.
“I thank the security personnel and Government of Unity State for the good work they did during Christmas celebrations,” she said.
Meanwhile, Kai Mead Makuei who traveled to Unity State from Juba to celebrate Christmas with family and relations, confirmed that it has been peaceful and without attacks from gangs which was characteristic of the season in the past.
“I witnessed peaceful celebrations and we even left our house without a person to take care of our properties and nothing was stolen,” he stated.
