The Government of Unity State has commended the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) for helping the state in controlling flooding in Bentiu town and Runkona County.
James Chieng, the state’s Relief and Rehabilitation (RRC) chairperson earlier in the week while addressing journalists said the state has successfully been working in partnership with UNMISS to control floods.
“As a government, we have been working in partnership with UNMISS in mitigation of the flood disaster and we have come a long way and have managed to control the flood from engulfing the state,” he said.
Chieng said heavy flooding which started in Panyijier County in June 2019 cut off Rubkona County.
“We have been working on upgrading the dykes and we have secured Bentiu and Rubkona and we have constructed over 7 km of dykes in Rubkona and more in Bentiu headquarters,” he said.
