The workers representative of striking workers at UNISFA in Abyei have said they will resume work on Sunday, reported Abyei Today.
Mou Malai who represents the over 400 workers said that they will return to their work following an agreement with United Nations managers. The dispute was about salaries and how staff were paid.
Separately, a demonstration was held outside of the main UNISFA compound in Abyei by civil society organisations against the delays in the Abyei peace dialogue. Arop Dembak Deng, representing youth groups, said they wanted to protest against the delays to the peace talks caused by what they see as interference from AJOC, particular from the Sudanese side of the committee.
The protesters said they wanted the international community to know about these delays by delivering a memorandum to the UN.
A UNISFA representative thanked the protesters for the peaceful manner of the demonstration and said the document would be sent to the UN Secretary General’s office at the UN headquarters in New York.
