Forty-three women, girls, and people living with disabilities who completed a six months tailoring course organized by the Interchurch Medical Assistance (IMA) with support from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) received 22 sewing machines in Awerial County of Lakes State on Monday.
Mary Akur Deng who trained the tailors told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the tailors will receive 22 sewing machines from UNFPA through IMA and that two beneficiaries will share one sewing machine and Kitenge materials for kick-starting their business.
“I have given both skills on how to sow clothes for both males and females. I have been training these 43 beneficiaries in tailoring from July,” Akur said. “Now, they are graduated and they will be ready to start working here in Awerial County as tailors and they can sell clothes to the community.”
Ayen Akim, a primary four dropout who is a beneficiary of the tailoring course said, “Today we are graduating from the tailoring college. As a primary four dropout, I found this as an opportunity to acquire skills because I have no other means to reach the next level of education. This course will help me in life.
Another beneficiary of the tailoring course living with disability, Nyanwel Awan, said she learned a lot during the six months of tailoring training and that the “skills will help change my life and I will continue to commit myself.”
The IMA manager, Teresa Achuei, said UNFPA, through IMA, had helped in boosting income-generating activities in Awerial County.
