UNDP organizes dialogue between police and citizens in Wau

The United Nation Developmental Program organized on Tuesday an open dialogue between local community and police in Wau town of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal aiming to strengthen the relationship between police and the community.

The five-day workshop, which aims to form a strong community police, included 30 participants from community police in Wau town and police personnel.

Hassan John, one of the participants from community police, said most of the citizens avoid contacts with police personnel because of their wrong behaviors towards the citizens.

“Most of the citizens know the role of police,” James Anthony a police personnel said.

He appreciated the role played by the citizens in which they reported around 100 cases of rape and domestic violence last year. Anthony pointed out that this confirmed the good relationship between police and community in Wau town.

He also appreciated the success of community police and youth in fighting crimes and raids in the residential areas by organizing patrol teams at night.
