UN to provide relief to thousands in Twic East

The commissioner of Twic East County in South Sudan’s Jonglei State says UN agencies are preparing to assist over 13,000 citizens who fled their homes after a recent attack on Pakeer village.

Commissioner Dau Akoi Jurkuch told Radio Tamazuj that UN agencies have registered the displaced families in preparation to give them aid.

However, the commissioner said most of the displaced people have returned to their homes and the situation is now stable in the village following deployment of security forces.

In mid-November, gunmen killed at least 22 civilians and wounded 9 others in an attack on Pakeer village at Maar payam.
