The United Nations Mission in South Sudan has released a list of 47 civilians who were killed in the attack on the UNMISS base in the Jonglei state capital of Bor on April 17, 2014.

A pro-government youth militia stormed the base and proceeded to massacre Nuer civilians inside. In total 53 people did in the attack. 47 were civilians, three were perpetrators, and the identities of three other deceased remain unkown, UNMISS said. The dead range from an eight month old baby to a woman in her sixties.

The eight month old girl was named NyaUnmiss. Some parents in South Sudan have named their children “Unmiss” to honor the peacekeeping mission mandated to protect civilians sheltering in its bases.

“19 were adult males; 17 adult females; four male children (aged eight, seven, three, and two); and seven female children (aged 17, 15, 14, 11, 10, five years, and eight months),” said UNMISS, adding that at least two victims were pregnant.

The report noted that community members said 146 people were killed, but was unable to find corroborating evidence to the claim.

Eleven people were abducted in the attack and at least three remain missing.
