Sani Martin, a journalist working for UN-owned Radio Miraya, was released this evening by National Security Service after being held for 5 hours in Juba.

Today morning, South Sudan’s Media Authority picked Sani Martin while covering a press conference held by Information Minister Michael Makuei at the premises of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

Media regulator’s officials seized Martin’s phone and equipment and took him to their offices.

A source told Radio Tamazuj that the UN radio journalist was released by national security officials in Jebel.

The source further said the radio journalist was arrested for covering government activities.

In March, the Media Authority suspended the operations of Radio Miraya for allegedly violating the terms of its broadcast license.
