UN peacekeeping chief arrives in Juba

The UN Under Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix arrived in the South Sudanese capital, Juba on Tuesday to assess the political situation in the country.

The UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix arrived in the South Sudanese capital, Juba on Tuesday to assess the political situation in the country.

In a statement upon arrival, Jean-Pierre said he plans to discuss with South Sudan’s government President Kiir to assess the security situation and the political process and how we the world body can help move that process forward.

“I am also looking forward to having meetings and discussions with our colleagues at UNMISS – with David Shearer and the leadership of the Mission as well as our colleagues who are doing an excellent work both in Juba and in the field,” he said.

“I look forward to seeing you again at the end of my visit for a more comprehensive discussion and to brief you on the outcomes of that visit. Thank you very much,” he added.
