A patrol of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) was ambushed Thursday by an unidentified armed group near Anka, North Darfur, a UN spokesperson said.

Spokesperson for UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon Stephane Dujarric said one peacekeeper was injured in the attack by perpetrators who greatly outnumbered UNAMID’s peacekeepers.

The attackers seized one machine gun, four rifles, as well as ammunition, Dujarric said.

UNAMID condemned the attack on its personnel and said it is working closely with Sudanese authorities to investigate the incident, Dujarric said.
