UN peacekeeper injured in Malakal shooting

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) reported yesterday that a peacekeeper was injured in a shooting incident outside its base in Malakal, Upper Nile State.

A spokesman of the UN in New York, Stephane Dujarric stated, “The UN Mission reports new firing outside of its compound in Malakal. One peacekeeper was injured.”

“The Mission is deeply concerned that despite reassurances given by both parties, such an incident occurred this afternoon and reiterates its strong call upon all the parties to respect the sanctity of UN installations and staff,” said Dujarric.
