UN opens new camp in South Sudan border state

The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) yesterday announced it has opened a new camp for refugees fleeing Blue Nile state, over the border into Upper Nile in South Sudan.

Nambil camp will accomodate those refugees not registered at Al Jimam amid reports that UNHCR is hoping to redirect refugees to the new camp, to be closer for those coming from Blue Nile.

Al Jimam is also reportedly not suitable for the rainy season as it is prone to flooding.

Camp coordinator Nasreldin Abdel Rahman said 'UNHCR cannot protect people unless they are registered at a camp, this forced them to open the new camp.'
