The UN mission in the disputed Abyei area between Sudan and South Sudan said it has received no official request from Sudan for President Omar al-Bashir to visit the area.

Reports from Khartoum have suggested al-Bashir would travel to Abyei this week as part of his campaign tour ahead of upcoming elections in Sudan.

The UN mission in Abyei UNISFA told a local Abyei radio station that no visit had taken place so far. Al-Bashir has recently travelled to areas in Kordofan where he reportedly said Abyei remains part of Sudan.
