UN High Commissioner 'outraged' at Sudan's random bombing

On Friday the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed outrage at Sudan’s random bombing of South Sudan and warned that attacks that harm civilians can be considered as international war crimes.

Pillay condemned the attacks during a visit to South Sudan and urged Khartoum to abide by international human rights treaties.

Last Wednesday South Sudan accused Sudan of bombing seven areas in its territory, describing the attack as a violation of the ceasefire, which was supposed to start last Saturday.

At the headquarters of the UN mission in Juba, Pillay told reporters that reckless or deliberate attacks on civilians could represent international crimes.
