United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has commended the role played by Kenya in promoting peace and stability in South Sudan.
The UN Secretary General specifically thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for his personal endeavours to support peace in South Sudan as well as the restoration of stability.
“I must express deep personal appreciation for what President Kenyatta has done in support to the peace process in South Sudan in creating the conditions for the agreement to be established,” he said.
“We are still not yet there in the full implementation of the peace agreement. We still have a lot of challenges but we will be working together to make sure that those challenges are overcome,” he added.
Guterres was speaking Wednesday when he paid a courtesy call on President Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi.
