UN agency to assist 3,000 people in South Sudan

The humanitarian coordinator of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Toby Lanzer disclosed that the United Nations Agency for Humanitarian Affairs plans to deliver aid to about 3,000 people in need of humanitarian assistance by the end of this year.

“The number of people who need humanitarian assistances in all the ten states of South Sudan is more than a million people,” Lanzer said. “The UN agency aims to reach 3,000 people by the end of this year. The assistance includes food, shelter and medical care,” Lanzer said.

In a press statement yesterday, the humanitarian official explained that the United Nations Agency for Humanitarian Affairs has been providing food items to needy people and the displaced persons following the outbreak of violence in Jonglei State.

He also revealed that South Sudan is benefiting from the largest humanitarian operations, due to lavish donor support.

The UNMISS official confirmed that the number of aid workers in South Sudan is about 17,000 people.
