The International Organization for Migration delivered clean water kits to nearly 6000 displaced people living in Kurwai payam in Canal county of South Sudan’s Jonglei state.
The group handed out buckets, water containers, soap, filters, and water purification tablets to the displaced people who have fled the ongoing civil war.
In a press release, IOM said the people fled violence in Atar in June, and that most of the displaced are women, children, and the elderly. The group said they will educate the displaced people on the importance of handwashing, the dangers of open defecation, and other tips to promote hygiene.
IOM said they are delivering similar clean water equipment to some 3500 displaced people in Kolapach in Canal as well, who fled their homes last year.
Since December 2013, the crisis in South Sudan has displaced more than 2.3 million people, including nearly 1.7 million inside the country, IOM said.
