UK ambassador to Khartoum meets presidential aide over peace talks in Two Areas

The British Ambassador to Khartoum Michael Aron on Sunday met with the Sudanese Presidential Assistant Ibrahim Mahmud Hamid in the capital Khartoum where they conferred on humanitarian access in the South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and its allied militia have been fighting against the SPLA-North rebel group since 2011.

According to the state-run media SUNA, the British ambassador said peace talks on the Two Areas should resume as soon as possible so stability is restored in the country, while pointing to deep bilateral relations between Sudan and the United Kingdom.

The British diplomat further said the meeting discussed progress of Sudan’s National Dialogue and endeavours to form new government.

For his part, Mahud Hamid reaffirmed his government’s keenness to implement the outcome of the National Dialogue process.
