UJOSS boss Oyet lands regional seat

The President of the Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS), Patrick Oyet, has been elected the Vice-President of the Federation of the Eastern Africa Journalists (FEAJ).

Oyet was elected at a historic meeting of the journalists’ union from across Eastern Africa held in Kigali, Rwanda, on January 15.

The Secretary General of the Kenya Union of Journalists, Eric Oduor, was elected the FEAJ President, during the meeting that also saw the regional organization rebrand.

Rwandan journalist and trainer Solange Ayanone was elected Secretary-Treasurer, and Mussa Juma and Promise Twinamukye Executive Members

FEAJ said in a statement that the new identity reflects its collective commitment to fighting for the rights and interests of journalists and improving work conditions and press freedom throughout the region.

FEAJ, now a 12-member organization, is expected to continue to lead advocacy and capacity building for journalists across Eastern Africa.

The organization covers diverse region, including Kenya, Somalia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Seychelles and the Comoros.
