Ugandan high court judge holds workshop with S Sudanese counterparts

Justice Galdino Moro Okello of the Supreme Court of Uganda is scheduled to hold a workshop with his South Sudanese counterparts in Juba from Tuesday to Thursday, focusing on how to adjudicate constitutional disputes.

The workshop is organized by the German Max Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law and funded by the German government as part of a larger project to support the South Sudan Supreme Court.

According to a press statement by the Max Planck organization, the workshop this week is the second of four seminars with South Sudan’s high court justices with the aim to “enhance the capacities of the members of the South Sudan Supreme Court in resolving constitutional and legal disputes.”

Justice Galdino will conduct the workshop together with two research follows of the German institute.

“The workshop will address critical issues of judicial independence, judicial legitimacy and methods of constitutional interpretation by the South Sudan Supreme Court from a comparative perspective,” reads the press statement.
