A Ugandan businessman died in Tonj State on Thursday after a tree he was cutting down fell on him, police authorities said.

A Ugandan businessman died in Tonj State on Thursday after a tree he was cutting down fell on him, police authorities said.

The state police commissioner Nhial Nhial Monychol told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that Mwanza Rotana died when he was unable to get out of the way of the falling tree.

“The incident occurred near Tonj town on 18 July. The Ugandan man died after a mahogany tree fell and hit him in the head while he was cutting it down in the bush,” he said

The senior police officer pointed out that the body of the Ugandan businessman was flown to Uganda for burial.

Nhial noted that Mwanza’s partner in the timber business is currently under investigations in the state.” A Sudanese businessman who was working together with Mwanza is being investigated by the police,” he said.

“The government had approved 10 mahogany trees to be taken by the company. The Ugandan businessman was supposed to take 3 trees and 7 mahogany trees for his partner called Hassan Hussein,” he added.
