Uganda’s president in Addis Ababa for IGAD summit on South Sudan peace

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has held a meeting with the Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn in Addis Ababa today, according to Ugandan media.

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has held a meeting with the Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn in Addis Ababa today, according to Ugandan media.

The meeting took place this afternoon shortly before the official starting of the 31st extraordinary summit of the Inter-Government Authority on Development (IGAD) Heads of State in Addis Ababa.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister is the current chairperson of the East African regional bloc IGAD, an 8-member economic bloc that brings together Ethiopia, Djibouti, Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Kenya, South Sudan and Uganda.

The summit is expected to discuss the dire security and humanitarian situation facing South Sudan and the obstacles to the implementation of the signed peace deal.
