Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni arrived in South Sudan’s capital Juba this morning to attend SPLM’s Liberation Council meetings today.

President Salva Kiir, who doubles as chairman of the SPLM party, called for convening of the 4th SPLM National Liberation Council in Juba to reunify all fragmented factions of the historical party.

Museveni arrived in Juba and drove to State House for a meeting with his host President Salva Kiir.

Even though officials said several presidents had been invited, it is only President Museveni who had turned up.

Presidents of Tanzania and South Africa were also invited. Museveni met Kiir and he will attend the opening session of the SPLM National Liberation Council meetings.

Egypt’s foreign minister Sameh Shoukri has just arrived in Juba to attend the event.

Security is tight in the capital Juba since morning. The event was scheduled to start at 9:00 am.

The ruling SPLM party fractured in December 2013, leading to the ongoing civil war that has killed thousands and forced millions to seek refugees in neighboring countries.
