Police authorities in Uganda’s West Nile region said they have launched investigations into the killing of a South Sudanese lawmaker from Yei River State in December 2017.

Police authorities in Uganda’s West Nile region said they have launched investigations into the killing of a South Sudanese lawmaker from Yei River State in December 2017.

Jacob Kuwinsuk Gale, a MP of Yei River assembly, was shot and killed by unkown gunmen in the town of Mijale in northern Uganda. The legislator had left Yei with other people to make consultations as part of the national dialogue for South Sudanese refugees in Uganda.

Angutia Josephine, Spokesperson of Uganda’s West Nile Police, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that thorough investigations have been launched into the murder of the South Sudanese lawmaker.

“Some witnesses have already started informing the police about the killers of late Kwansuk,” Josephine said.

“We are trying to collect the necessary information and we hope that the truth will come out and the perpetrators will be arrested,” she added.

Noel Malish Scopas, chairperson for the parliamentary committee for information in Yei River State, urged the government of Uganda to expedite the investigation.
