The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated a well-equipped hospital to Northern Bahr el Ghazal State’s Aweil East County and a team of medical doctors, architects, and electrical engineers arrived on Monday from Dubai to launch the health facilities operations.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday morning, Aweil East County Commissioner Diing Aher Ngong said the hospital was donated by the people of the United Arab Emirates to the people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State through President Salva Kiir and Presidential Envoy Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel.
“The hospital will be made with modern materials in Madhol Payam in Aweil East County and it was donated by the people of the United Arab Emirates as a gift to President Kiir and his envoy on special programs, Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel,” Aher said.
According to the commissioner, the hospital will be ready in a week and it will operate under UAE support before it is handed over to Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Government after two years.
“The facility’s installation will take six days with effect from 22 December after which the hospital will officially start treating patients,” Commissioner Aher said. “The team that arrived from the UAE is comprised of medical doctors, architects, and electrical engineers.”
A local chief who preferred anonymity commended the UAE and President Kiir for the donation, saying the president is someone who wants to promote service delivery.
“My view is that if the president can give such opportunities, then these are the kind of services we need,” he stated. “A president is someone who wants services like hospitals delivered to the people like what happened in Madhol.”
Meanwhile, the Aweil East County Youth Association Chairperson, Thiep Deng Akol, said the new health facility will help address health challenges in the state.
“If they are going to construct that hospital, it will help not only the local people, but the entire community of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and I welcome the initiative,” he said.
