The United Nations intends to double cash based assistance for refugees across the world by 2020, its refugee agency said today.
The move hopes to give refugees more resources amid displacement. There are over 1 million refugees from South Sudan, according to the U.N.
“The broader use of cash-based assistance means that many more will be able to decide how to manage their family’s budget. This will help them lead more dignified and normal lives,” said the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi in a press release.
There are more than 65 million people around the world have been forced from home, and more than 21 million refugees.
