At least two people were wounded and two others missing in a cattle raid in Aliny County in South Sudan’s Ruweng State on Tuesday, a local official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Acting Information Minister Simon Chol Malek said gunmen from neighboring Northern Liech State attacked a cattle camp and raided over 1,000 cattle. “The authorities managed to return four cows only,” he said.

He pointed out that the incident resulted in the wounding of two people, adding that two others are missing.

The government official noted that the wounded people were taken to hospital for treatment.  He urged the government of Northern Liech to return the stolen cattle. Chol emphasized the need to promote peaceful coexistence between the two communities.

Separately, Simon Chol said gunmen from Sudan’s South Kordofan State attacked a cattle camp in the area of Bonki and raided over 211 cows on December 23.

“The chief of Keilek Locality in South Kordofan managed to return 15 cows. They are also in contact with the commissioner of Aliny to return the remaining cows to their owners in Aliny County,” he said.

The acting information minister commended the efforts made by the authorities of Keilek Locality to return the stolen cattle.
