At least two women were killed and a girl abducted while a man went missing during a road ambush in Nyirol County in Jonglei State on Wednesday, local officials said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Thursday, James Bol Makuey, the county commissioner, said the victims were on the way to Lankien town when they came under attack.
“The incident happened on a road at a place called Tein between Chuil Payam and the county headquarters, Langkein town. Two women were killed, a girl abducted and one man is still missing,” Bol said.
He said armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) were involved in the attack.
The local official said no arrests have been made so far.
Mahmoud Chuol, the director-general at the state information ministry also confirmed the incident and called on Pibor authorities to intervene.
For his part, Abraham Kelang, the GPAA information minister, said they are not aware of the incident.
The intercommunal hostilities in parts of Jonglei State and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area have claimed numerous lives, injured countless more and have seen the raiding of thousands of cattle.
