Two women went missing while fetching firewood in Duk county of Jonglei State on Wednesday, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Friday, Duk County Commissioner Peter Latjor Chuol said families are worried about the whereabouts of their loved ones.
“What happened two days ago in Pajut town was that two women went missing in a nearby bush where they had gone to collect firewood. The two women left home at 10 am and never to returned,” he said.
The local official said a search for the two women who have gone missing was futile.
“For the last two days, our youths have been searching for the missing women in the bush but could not find them. So we believe that they have been abducted,” he explained.
Cattle raids and abductions of women and children are commonplace among the communities of the Greater Jonglei region.
