Gunmen killed at least two traders Wednesday along the Panyagoor-Poktap road in Twic East County of South Sudan’s Jonglei State, according to a local official.
Commissioner Dau Akoi Jurkuch told Radio Tamazuj that two traders riding a motorcycle were shot dead by unknown gunmen along the Panyagoor-Poktap road.
Jurkuch pointed out that the road has become insecure for citizens because of armed groups. The official accused members of the Lou Nuer tribe from Uror County of involvement in the attacks.
“In Twic East County, we have insecurity along the road, two traders were travelling from Poktap to Panyagoor, they were ambushed and both of them were killed, so it is unfortunate” he said.
Jurkuch said they dispatched a patrol on the road connecting the two areas in an attempt to curb crimes.
Last week, at least two wildlife soldiers escorting women were killed along the Panyagoor-Poktap road.
