More than two thirds of South Sudan’s 2014/2015 government budget will go to salaries and security sector.
Finance Minister Agrey Tisa Sabuni presented the 11.3 billion SSP budget to parliament on Wednesday, Sudan Tribune reports.
4.4 billion SSP, nearly 40% of the entire budget, will go to salaries, while the military will receive 28%, or 3.13 billion SSP. Another 1.573 billion SSP will go to fire, police, and prison services.
Education will receive 622 million SSP, about 5.5% of the budget. The health sector will receive 451 million SSP, about 4% of the budget.
393 million SSP or 3.5% will go to infrastructure.
Humanitarian aid has been allocated 110 million SSP, less than 1% of the total.
This year’s budget is about a third smaller than last year’s due to a drop in oil production during the civil war.
Oil revenue makes up almost 80% of the government funds this year.
The parliament has three weeks to pass the budget, according to Sudan Tribune.
