Security agents have arrested two members of the striking teacher’s committee in Bor town in South Sudan’s Jonglei State this afternoon for unclear reason.

The teachers went on strike since last month to demand unpaid salaries and promotions.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj today, Information Secretary of the Jonglei Teachers Union Ayuen Majok confirmed the arrest of two teachers by security officers in Bor town.

“Yes, it is true, they were summoned and then they were arrested, but we have not yet gone there to know the problem, we want to know the reason first,” said Majok.

“We don’t think that they committed any crime, the reason could be the strike, we would go there to investigate the problem,” he added.

Ayuen accused the state government of failing to fulfil their demands.
