Two young men suspected to have been terrorizing people, were on Friday shot dead by security forces in Paloc County of Western Lakes State, a government official disclosed.
Mawet Manuer Kok, the state local government minister, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that Akarac Majak Dukuei died alongside another unidentified young man.
Manuer said Akarac was a wanted criminal who is accused of having murdered more than 13 people in Rumbek East County. “Akarac was a criminal wanted by the state government. More than 13 people have been killed by the criminal,” Manuer added.
He said the state high court sentenced Akarac to death for murder two years ago, but escaped from Rumbek’s Main Prison. The minister appealed to relatives of the deceased to remain calm.
Manuer assured citizens of the state government’s commitment to bring peace and reconciliation among communities in the state.
“We will ensure that the displaced communities from the Rup section of Malek County return to their original land because the Pakam communities are now moving towards their original land,” he said.
The official pointed out that authorities would regulate the movement of cattle to grazing areas during the coming dry seasons.
