Sudanese Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Kerti is scheduled to meet his South Sudanese counterpart in the Egyptian capital Cairo, where the two will discuss bilateral relations including a planned meeting between the countries’ two presidents.
A source in Cairo suggested that the purpose of the visit is to arrange a visit for Sudanese president Omar Hassan Al Bashir soon.
Separately, South Sudan’s foreign affairs minister Barnaba Marial who is in Egypt’s capital to arrange a visit for President Salva Kiir welcomed a meeting between the two Sudanese presidents in Cairo.
Marial said there are communications between the two sides, while reiterating his government’s commitment to implement the Joint Cooperation Agreements signed in September 2012.
The two Sudanese foreign ministers will carry out a joint tour of Arab and western countries in order to lobby for reducing Sudan’s debt, which is estimated at more than 40 billion dollars, according to the South Sudanese minister.
The South Sudanese official claimed that the security situation has been restored in South Sudan including Upper Nile region which is affected by the current rebellion led by former vice president Dr. Riek Machar.
“We call upon the rebels to engage in dialogue instead of war because power is gained is through ballot box not by force,” Barnaba was quoted as saying.
