Two Sudans' presidents congratulate Donald Trump on US election victory

Two Sudans’ presidents and prominent rebel leader Riek Machar have sent congratulatory messages to Donald Trump after he claimed victory as the 45th president of the United States.

In a speech broadcast by state-own media on Wednesday, South Sudan President Salva Kiir congratulated Donald Trump on his victory and offered to work closely with him to find a solution to the ongoing war in South Sudan.

Kiir hoped that the new administration can advance respectful bilateral diplomatic ties.

For his part, South Sudanese rebel leader Riek Machar congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory in the United States. Machar urged Trump to play a greater role in ending conflict in the world’s youngest nation.

Meanwhile, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir also congratulated newly-elected US President Donald Trump upon his election as the next US president. President Bashir offered to work with Trump to improve diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Sudan has been under US sanctions since 1997 and remains on the US blacklist of state sponsors of terror since 1993.
