At least two SPLA soldiers were killed in an ambush by gunmen on the Bor-Juba highway over the weekend, a local official said.
Speaking on Radio Tamazuj’s With the Commissioners program, Alario Paul, Mangala County Commissioner in Jubek State, confirmed the incident. He further said the victims were ambushed while travelling with a military vehicle at Khor Dababa area along the Juba-Bor road on Saturday.
“The military vehicle was attacked and two soldiers were killed, but one of the attackers was killed, he was wearing police uniform” said Alario.
The local official revealed that the Khor Dababa area had witnessed cases of robbery. He added that similar attacks occurred last week in which one person was reported killed.
The commissioner called for deployment of a security force in order to stop ambushes by armed groups on the road.
Alario disputed reports that movements of traders between Juba and Bor were halted. However, he cited deteriorating living conditions in Mangala County due to hunger.
