The two South Sudanese pastors who have been jailed in Sudan for nearly eight months have been released today, Wednesday, sources told Radio Tamazuj from Khartoum.
Families of the two pastors expressed their happiness as they confirmed the release of their spouses. “They have been just released after the court found them innocent of charges put against them,” the wife of one of the pastors said.
In the meantime they are undergoing the procedures of their release, she aded.
Rev. Yat Michael was arrested in December 2014 after preaching in one of the churches in Khartoum. Pastor Peter Yein was arrested in January 2015 after delivering a letter to the Ministry of Guidance and Religious Endowment asking about the whereabouts of his colleague.
Both church leaders were charged with capital offenses and other charges but the prosecutors could not provide enough evidence.
