Two soldiers have been arrested for shooting and injuring two people in the town of Torit in Eastern Equatoria State, a military officer said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, the head of the joint operation forces in Torit, Frist Lieutenant Marko Oleya said the soldiers, who are part of the team implementing the ongoing night curfew in town, were under the influence of alcohol.

He said the two soldiers shot a boy and a young girl. “We need a law to deal with such cases,” said Oleya.

The area police spokesperson, Major Justine Kleopus Takuru said the incident involving the two SSPDF soldiers took place at Hai Police.

“While drunk, they indiscriminately shot about 17 bullets that injured a 14-year-old girl on the shoulder. Again, on their way to the barrack in Malakia, they shot and injured a boda-boda rider. They are currently in hospital for treatment,” Takuru explained.

He added, “The two soldiers attempted to run, but were arrested and a case has been opened against them. We wrote to the army to forward the soldiers to police because that was an attempted murder”.
