At least two South Sudanese youth were killed in inter-communal clashes at Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya’s Turkana County on Monday, camp managers said.
Matai Koang Lam, a zonal leader at Kakuma Refugee Camp, told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that the two people were killed in the fighting between two sections of the Lou Nuer community over a girl.
“The fighting erupted when a girl from Akobo County was impregnated by a man from Nyirol County. The problem between the two communities here started since last year,” he explained.
The zonal leader pointed out that eight people sustained injuries during the clashes.” Two women and six young boys were also wounded during the fighting. One person in critical condition has been taken to Lodwar for treatment,” he said.
Koang noted that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
