Lakes state police have arrested two men suspected to have raped two women and an underage girl while five other suspects remain at large.
Acting Police Commissioner Machar Muorwel Madol told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday last week that the victims are admitted to Rumek hospital while the suspects are in prison.
He said a 10-year-old girl was among those raped.
The police officer said the incident occurred in Abiriu Payam of Cueibet County. He further said police authorities launched an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, Agum Joseph Kuc, the chairperson of Lakes State Women’s Union condemned the criminal act committed by youth.
She appealed to state authorities, particularly law enforcement agencies, to bring the perpetrators to book.
"We are appealing to the state government to apprehend all the perpetrators and bring them to book. We want all the suspects arrested and sent to court for trial,” Agum stressed.
She appealed to the police to protect women from rape and abuse.
South Sudan laws provide for the protection of women and girls from sexual abuse, exploitation and gender-based violence, including rape, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation
