Two police officers who allegedly ambushed a truck in Tonj South County of Warrap State are under investigations and will be arraigned in court this week, a local official said.
The incident occurred at Mabior Yar area of Wanthalel payam last week.
Gabriel Awan Makuoch, the Secretary General of the defunct Tonj State, told Radio Tamazuj the truck was ambushed between Torit town and Thiet payam. He explained that the vehicle was returning to Tonj town after transporting food to an army base at Yienth-Kuel in Thiet payam.
He said the truck driver and co-driver were unhurt in the incident. “The attackers were arrested and are now in Tonj prison as investigations by the police continue,” Makuoch said.
The official acknowledged the rise in numbers of outlaws, blaming it to the vacuum created by shortage of law enforcement personnel. Makuoch said majority of the law enforcement officers are currently undergoing training as part of the unified forces in Wau.
